If you've decided to install security screens on your windows, then you need to take some time to choose the right products. These screens don't just protect your home, they affect the way your windows work. If you make mistakes here, then the screens won't work for you.

1. Enhanced Security
Security screens are usually made from strong mesh. They can be fixed or removable. In either case, you want to buy screens that meet relevant security standards. If a screen's mesh is easy to cut, bend or break, then its window won't be completely secure.
You should also look at the way a screen attaches to a window. If its screws and bolts are visible and close to the outside of the frame, then they become a weak spot. A burglar with the right tools can simply unscrew the fixings and take the screen off the window to get access to it.

Some security screens affect the ways that windows work. For example, a dark and dense mesh might reduce the amount of light that comes in through a window. Some screens reduce the space you have to open windows.
The best security screens work with you here. They won't affect incoming light or your visibility out of your windows. They'll allow you to open your windows the way you normally do so you can get the same ventilation indoors as you did before you fitted the screens.
3. Easy Emergency Exits
While you want security windows to keep people out of your home, you don't want them to trap you inside. If you have an emergency at home, like a fire, then you might need to escape through a window. If you've installed a fixed screen that doesn't open from the inside, then you can't do this.
Look for screens that can be used as an emergency exit. For example, you can open some screens from the inside by turning a catch or opening a lock. While you might not need every window in your home to give you access outside, you should have some screens that work as emergency exits.
